The Trumann Storm took first place in the Cal Ripken 12 and under 2012 Classic division tournament play Saturday, May 5 at Trumann's Fleming Fields. Five teams from NEA competed. -
Jagger McCrary named scholar athlete (High School Sports ~ 05/17/12)
The Arkansas Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc. recently honored outstanding scholar athletes throughout the state of Arkansas at a special ceremonial banquet help at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel in North Little Rock, Characteristics of a scholar athlete are, for the purpose of this selection, that the individual is an outstanding scholar who has played football in high school. Each honoree is considered in the competition based on his scholastic ability and athletic achievements as well as his extracurricular activities in school and in the community. Coaches across the state are requested to nominate their candidates and a selection committee selects those to be honored. Jagger McCrary of Marked Tree High School was one of 46 honorees. He exemplified all of the required characteristics for selection as an outstanding scholar athlete. The average grade point for all of the combined honorees was 3.8 on a scale of 4.0. Jagger is an outstanding student who deserves full recognition for his ability as a scholar athlete in the state of Arkansas. He, along with the other honorees, was presented a Certificate of Merit signed by Governor Mike Beebe and presented by Kevin Hunt, Assistant to the Governor, for his scholarship and athletic achievements. -
Area teams fall in state tournament

Baseball and softball seasons have come to an end for all the teams in Poinsett County who advanced to the state tournaments. In Class 1A softball, the Weiner Lady Cardinals were eliminated in the first round as they lost to the Viola 12-0 last Thursday in Bradley. In Class 2A baseball action at White Hall, Marked Tree advanced to the second round as they beat Hackett 4-2 in the opening round last Thursday. The Indians saw their season end as they fell to Horatio 5-1 in the second round this past Saturday. EPC fell to Magazine 3-1 in the first round last Thursday. In Class 2A softball action at White Hall, the Lady Indians of Marked Tree advanced to the second round with their 4-1 win over Hackett. Marked Tree didn't fare well in the second round as they were beaten 10-1 by Junction City. In Class 4A softball, the Trumann Lady Wildcats couldn't get past the first round as they dropped a 5-1 decision to Ashdown in Heber Springs.

Trumann athletes honored at banquet (High School Sports ~ 05/17/12)
Trumann Schools honored their athletes this past Tuesday night at the Trumann Wildcat Athletic Banquet held at the high school. Athletes were recognized in 18 sports they competed in. Varsity football presented five awards to open the evening. Taylor May and Tyler Renshaw were named best defensive and offensive lineman respectively. Josh Evans was named outstanding back. Quentin Buchanan was named most valuable player and Jimmy Creecy was chosen as team captain. Evans and Renshaw were also honored for all-conference. The junior high football awards went to Justin Liles for defensive player of the year and Willie Moore for offensive player of the year. Varsity basketball gave out two awards. Nate Maxwell got the Teammate award as the Wildcat Pride award went to Dylan Dulaney. Malcolm Washington was given a plaque in honor of his All-State selection. Matt Holt and Washington were also named all-conference. Junior high basketball selected Zane Mckemie with the Teammate award and Taylor Wilson for the Wildcat Pride award. Golfers Dulaney and Holt were honored for making the all-conference team. Varsity girls basketball the most valuable award to Jazmye Nixon and the Lady Wildcat Award went to Hannah Walters. Nixon was also selected all-conference. Junior high girls basketball presented Taelor Gartman with offensive player of the year and Shutavain Jones with defensive player of the year awards. The baseball team honored Zach Vinson, Cameron Jones and Maxwell for making all-conference. Maxwell was also selected all-state. The girls softball team honored Kelly Guthrie with the Gold Glove award and Walters was given the offensive player award. Walters and Macy Hicks made all-conference. Buchanan and Haley Kelly were recognized for making the all-state bowling teams. Varsity track gave the Teammate award to Buchanan and the Wildcat Pride award went to Shane Black. Buchanan was named all-conference. The junior high boys track awards went to Dalton Carter for Teammate and Moore for Wildcat Pride. The junior high girls track presented the Teammate award to Jaycee Hogan and the Wildcat Pride to Taelor Gartman. Varsity volleyball awarded Kali Conaway with the Teammate award, Scarlett Davis with the Hustle award and Cilla White with the Wildcat Pride award. Walter and Hailey Winningham were named all-conference. The junior high volleyball awards went to Haven Taylor for Teammate, Blair Jones for Hustle and Macey Davis for Wildcat Pride. Davis, Neely Blagg and Alli Victory were named all-conference. In tennis, Morgan Haney was named to the girls all-conference team as Kaleb Capps, Michael Criss and Jacob Brumley were tabbed for the the boys all-conference team. Varsity cheerleading handed out five awards. Julianna King was named captain, Felicia Harvey was tabbed rookie of the year, White was awarded the super senior, Cody McHalffey was voted most valuable player and Dustin Hanna got the outstanding leader award. The junior high squad gave four awards. Ainsley Bowers was named rookie of the year, Mikayla Hammers was most valuable player, Tiffany Whitlock was the outstanding leader and Reagan Heilman was named most spirited.
