Free trees available for National Arbor Day

In recognition of National Arbor Day, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division is hosting giveaways of bare root seedlings at various locations across the state each Friday from March 18 through April 29. “Adding trees to your yard or to a community forest is beneficial to all Arkansans, and Spring is an excellent time to plant trees,” said Kristine Kimbro, Urban and Community Forestry Coordinator for the Forestry Division. ...

Arkansas sets bird flu emergency rule

While there have been confirmed cases of bird flu in area states, Arkansas agriculture officials said Wednesday they are hopeful that an emergency rule put in place earlier this month will help avoid cases in the state. The emergency rule began March 23 and will go through July 20, 2022 and as part of the rule, people cannot exhibit poultry or domestic waterfowl; move poultry or domestic waterfowl from or within an affected area but poultry with commuter agreements or premovement avian influenza testing by PCR or antigen capture are exempt.. ...

Trumann man arrested on assault charge

Steven Daniel Metheny, 51, of Trumann was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he pointed a weapon at a person at a car wash in Jonesboro on March 17. In a probable cause affidavit, an employee told a Jonesboro police officer that Metheny had pointed a gun at him. The officer later saw Methany, who was holding the handgun, police said...
