TRUMANN - Mrs. Dorcas Brock Wyatt, 76, departed this life Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born May 17, 1941 and was a lifetime resident of Trumann. She worked at Salant & Salant for many years where co-workers became friends, and friends became family. ...

During the Marked Tree City Council's September meeting Monday, the council amended an ordinance, reviewed several resolutions, and heard from two citizens. The council approved amending an ordinance passed last month waiving competitive bidding to purchase a tractor from Greenway Equipment. The original ordinance gave a bid price of $68,500 but did not include sales tax. The amended ordinance includes sales tax of $6,678.75 for a total estimate of $75,178...

The Tyronza City Council held their monthly meeting Monday night at the Senior Citizen's Center. Several items of new business, along with some old business, were discussed by the members. Chris Long is the newest member of the Tyronza Police Department and has been in law enforcement since 1999. Tyronza Police Chief BJ Carter had high praise for Long. "He knows his job and will be a great asset to the city. He's through his probation period and is now on regular patrols," Carter said...

Navy Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic Rickey Humphries, from Harrisburg, was recently promoted to chief petty officer, an accomplishment that only one in five eligible sailors achieve each year. Area players hit the dirt for softball action this past weekend at Southside Softball Complex in Jonesboro.

The Harrisburg Lady Hornets (9-4, 4-3) swept Highland 25-22, 25-14, 25-14 to pick up a conference win in high school volleyball action last night in Harrisburg. Olivia Deckelman led Harrisburg with 16-17 serving and three aces, 10 kills and 13 digs while Emily Newcomb finished with 29 assists to go with 14-15 serving and four aces. ...

Harrisburg's Lady Hornets (9-5) lost a 4-1 decision, 20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 14-25, to Ridgefield Christian this past Tuesday. Olivia Deckelman had 12 kills for Harrisburg as Jehlian Wright and Madison Peden finished with nine and eight kills respectively. Trumann and Pocahontas both entered the game at 3-0 as turnovers proved to be the difference as the Junior Redskins downed the Junior Wildcats (3-1, 0-1) 40-22 in junior high football action last Friday at Schoonover Field in Pocahontas. Pocahontas received the ball to open the game as the kick-off went out of bounds giving the ball to the Junior Redskins on the Trumann 42-yard line. ...

Marked Tree (3-1, 1-0) shut down EPC's (3-1, 0-1) running game as the Indians claimed a 38-0 win over their rival Warriors in the conference opener for both teams at Warrior Field in Lepanto. EPC got he ball first and turned it over to Marked Tree as Jonathan Gilmore coughed up the kick-off return with the Indians recovering at the EPC 33-yard line. ...
