Local youth harvest turkeys during youth hunts.

Bay point guard Dustin Utley was selected to the boys' Class 1 all-state team to cap off his senior year of high school. Utley, who for the past two years his job was getting the ball in the hands of the team's scorers, had a great year filling up the stat sheet every time he hit the floor averaging 15.4 per points, 6.8 rebounds per game and 3.7 assists per game. ...

Even though the season didn't end like he wanted, Bay's Taylor Layne capped off a great high school career with his selection to the boys' Class 1A all-state basketball team. This was Layne's second year to be selected. Layne averaged 19.4 points a game along with 1.98 rebounds and 1.95 assists per game while shooting 38.3 percent from field, 33.4 percent behind the three-point line and 84.9 percent from the free throw line. ...

Mallory Hartley homered in each game as Bay beat Cross County 15-3 and 6-4 in a doubleheader this past Thursday in high school softball action in Bay. Jessie Martin flew out leading off in game two as Bailee Kirby followed with a walk. Kirby was tagged out in a rundown after a short rundown. ...

Harrisburg found out it's hard to beat a team three times in the same season. The Hornets fell behind early to Pocahontas and could never catch up as they lost 12-4 this past Friday in high school baseball action in Harrisburg. The Redskins got to starter Jett Jackson early as they capitalized on two Harrisburg errors and a three-run homerun to take the early 3-0 in the top of the first. ...

Marked Tree's Harley Daniels and Harrisburg's Caitlyn Adams hooked up in pitcher's duel for the first four innings as the Lady Hornets held a l-0 lead. Marked Tree plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth as they went on to beat the Lady Hornets this past Monday in high school softball...

Trumann's Lady Wildcats allowed three runs in the top of the seventh inning as Pocahontas went on to post a 5-2 win. Sydney Callahan had three hits and a run scored to lead Trumann as Daly Taylor had a hit and two RBIs. Olivia Greenwell added two hits and a run scored. Anna Waleszonia took the loss for the Lady Wildcats as pitched all seven innings allowing five runs on eight hits. She walked two and struck out one...
