A local team of powerlifters took home several awards and records at the Dallas WABDL Regional bench press and deadlift competition recently. Tom Ekenberg competed in the 242 pound disabled division and had a 382 pound bench press along with a 517 pound deadlift. He finished in first place in both events. He also set a world record in the push-pull (bench + deadlift) with a total of 899 pounds. He also won a best lifter award in the 61-67 year old disabled division...

Even with the last still low, Lake Poinsett reports it is a good time to go fishing. The bait shop is still selling crickets for the bream fishermen but the minnows are still the top seller for live bait. There are still plenty of goldfish for those fishing for catfish. Bay (4-2, 1-1 conference) fell behind in the second quarter and could never catch as Armorel posted a 74-58 win this past Monday in Armorel. After a 12-12 first quarter, Bay was down 28-15 at the half and 49-26 after three quarters of play. Taylor Layne led Bay with 23 points as Dustin Utley finished with 18 points.
