TRUMANN - Mr. C. M. Murphy, 93, of Trumann, departed this life Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was a lifetime resident of Trumann and was a retired farmer and retired Poinsett County Juvenile Officer. He was a member of the Church of God on Balcom Lane. ...

A local team of powerlifters took home several awards and records at the Dallas WABDL Regional bench press and deadlift competition recently. Tom Ekenberg competed in the 242 pound disabled division and had a 382 pound bench press along with a 517 pound deadlift. He finished in first place in both events. He also set a world record in the push-pull (bench + deadlift) with a total of 899 pounds. He also won a best lifter award in the 61-67 year old disabled division...

Even with the last still low, Lake Poinsett reports it is a good time to go fishing. The bait shop is still selling crickets for the bream fishermen but the minnows are still the top seller for live bait. There are still plenty of goldfish for those fishing for catfish. The crappie are hitting good in six to eight feet of water...

EPC (6-4, 4-2 2A-3) played for at least a share or a possible outright conference title this past Friday at Warrior Field in Lepanto. The Warriors' offense could never get on track as the Earle Bulldogs handed EPC a 26-0 loss. The Warriors finished third in the conference and will travel to Foreman for the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs...

Bay (4-2, 1-1 conference) fell behind in the second quarter and could never catch as Armorel posted a 74-58 win this past Monday in Armorel. After a 12-12 first quarter, Bay was down 28-15 at the half and 49-26 after three quarters of play. Taylor Layne led Bay with 23 points as Dustin Utley finished with 18 points. In the junior high contest, Bay (5-1, 2-0) got 13 points from Paiton Hartley and ten points from Trenton Becker as they downed Armorel 49-10...

Local youth harvest deer during youth weekend hunt.

Trumann (7-3, 5-2 4A-3) jumped on Highland early and never looked back as the Wildcats posted a 48-13 win at Highland. The win gave Trumann the number three spot in the conference as the Wildcats will host Dumas in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs...

Two years ago, a small cabinet-making business in Trumann was looking to expand. Owners Donna Heard and her son Shawn Sullivan were referred to the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center by Deborah Taylor at First Community Bank. Heard and Sullivan received business plan assistance and market research from Laura Miller at the ASBTDC to assist in their business expansion efforts...

During the Trumann City Council's regular meeting Tuesday, the council approved the budget proposal for 2017. Budget committee head Carol Waleszonia said they were going to meet one more time to work out a couple more areas that need changed before having the final proposal ready for the December meeting...

During their regular meeting Tuesday, Tyronza Mayor Charles Glover gave the city council a heads up on a couple items they may be looking at in the future. The first involved the cemetery association. Glover said he had been approached by members of the cemetery association about the possibility of the city taking it over as the members are getting older and won't be able to do it anymore...

The big news during this year's general election is that Donald Trump won the Presidency with 279 electoral votes to Hillary Clinton's 228. At press time, Clinton won the popular vote with 60,122,876 to Trump's 59,821,874, making this the fifth election in U.S. ...

Due to dry and hot weather, Poinsett County Judge Bob Cantrell issued a burn ban effective Thursday, Nov. 10, until further notice.
