Girls Bay's Lady Yellowjackets (23-8) jumped out to 15-0 lead after the first period and went on the defeat Norfork this past Wednesday in the Class 1A Region 2 Regional tournament at Lynn. The win secures the Lady 'Jackets a spot in the state tournament...

Bay (35-4) opened play in the Class 1A Regional tournament last Tuesday with a 87-37 win over Norfork at Lynn. The teams traded baskets in the early going with Zach Johnson scoring both Bay baskets as Norfork took a 6-4 lead. Marked Tree raced out a 12-0 lead and never looked back as the Indians opened the 2A North Regional tournament with a 63-51 victory over Walnut Ridge at Imboden. The win set up a semi-final contest against the EPC Warriors. Darius Ivy gave Marked Tree a 1-0 lead as hit one of two free throws after being fouled. ...

The Marked Tree Lady Indians (22-7) let a fourth period lead slip away and then got a big three-pointer from Poohnu Perry to send the game into overtime where the Lady Tigers from Pangburn outscored the Lady Indians 18-8 to down Marked Tree 85-75 ending the Lady Indians season at the Class 2A North Regional tournament at Imboden...

Rivals EPC and Marked Tree met in the semi-finals of the Class 2A North Regional this past Saturday at Imboden. The Warriors came out strong building a double digit lead less that half way through the opening period as they went on to a 70-52 win. Bay played Viola in the consolation game of the Class 1A Regional tournament at Lynn. Bay held on to post a 53-50 win to take the third-seed going into the state tournament at Bradley. Viola got out to a 5-0 lead before Dylan Loven hit a jumper in the lane to make it 5-2. ...

EPC and Cedar Ridge squared off for the Class 2A North Regional tournament title this past Monday at Imboden. EPC led early but Cedar Ridge slowly pulled away each period on their way to the 60-54 win. Cedar Ridge jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Malik Monk hit a long three-pointer from the left wing followed by a jumper to tie the game at 5. ...

The Weiner Lady Cardinals (28-11) clinched the Class 1A Region 2 Regional tournament title this past Monday with a 52-30 win over Viola at Lynn. Peyton Craft led Weiner with 28 points as Kaci Mack netted 11 points for the Lady Cardinals. Weiner got to the championship game by defeating Mammoth Spring 57-38 last Friday in their opening round game. Weiner came back on Saturday and defeated host Hillcrest 63-62 to reach the championship game...

Trumann hired Scott Waymire from Carlisle, Ark., as the new head football coach for the upcoming year. Waymire holds a record of 71-18-1 in seven seasons at Carlisle. In 2011, he took his team all the way to the state championship game. Some of his other coaching achievements at the school include winning conference championships four times, 2A State Semi-Finalist two years in a row, 2A State Quarter-Finalist twice, being named Arkansas Democrat Gazette Coach of the Year in 2007, 6-2A Coach of the year four times, and Hooten's 2A Coach of the Year in 2011.. ...

Many Trumann residents were alarmed when they felt the earth shake last weekend. Three earthquakes southwest of Trumann were reported Saturday and Sunday. According to the Center for Earthquake Research and Information at the University of Memphis, the epicenter for the earthquakes was four miles southwest of Trumann. ...
