Boys The Harrisburg Hornets hosted the Manila Lions in a 3A-3 conference match up this past Friday. Manila jumped out and early and went on to a 58-40 win. Alec Whitt led the Hornets with 13 points on the night. Manila also won the junior high game 51-38...

The Bay Lady Yellowjackets (16-7, 6-2 1A-3) hosted the Black Rock Lady Zebras in a girls' 1A-3 conference game last Thursday night. Bay jumped out a 26-10 first period lead and never looked back as they rolled to a 74-39 victory. Brittany Roedel gave Bay the early 3-0 lead as she drilled a three-pointer from the left corner at 7:12 of the opening period. ...

For the first three periods of the game featuring the Marked Tree Lady Indians and Riverside Lady Rebels, you could not have asked for a better game. Back and forth scoring and good all around play. Marked Tree led 12-10 after one and the game was tied 26-26 at half and 41-41 at the end of three. The final period was totally different. Riverside went on a scoring frenzy hitting six three-pointers and putting up 36 points to claim a 77-55 victory...

Trumann used a strong defensive performance this past Friday night to post a 59-42 4A-3 conference win over Highland at Wildcat Gym. "It was by far the best defensive game we've played all year," Trumann coach Skip Dulaney said. The first period saw six lead changes as neither team could pull away from the other. ...

The Parkin Archeological State Park celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr., Day by playing many of his speeches in the Northern Ohio Schoolhouse on Monday, Jan. 21. This was the first year for the park to have this event. The event was held in the Northern Ohio Schoolhouse because it was previously a one room African American schoolhouse in he early 1900's. ...

Mr. Rufus Hamilton Jr., 62, of Turrell, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Born in Panola, Miss., he was a truck driver and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Hamilton Sr. and his step-father, Cleophus Perry Sr.; three sisters, Cledia Perry, Rosetta Hamilton and Deborah Perry; and; one brother, Willie Lawrence...
