Lady 'Cats improve to 2-0

Trumann - The Trumann Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 64-34 victory over the Cross County Lady Thunderbirds this past Thursday night. Jazyme Nixon scored 18 points and pulled downed 10 rebounds to lead the way for Trumann. Hannah Walters chipped in nine points and also had 10 rebounds. Taelor Gartman scored 14 points to lead the Junior Lady Wildcats to a 44-8 win.

Junior Wildcats drop opener

Bay -- The Trumann Junior Wildcats opened their season this past Monday in the Bay Junior Tournament. The Junior Warriors of Westside would come with the win, 40-35. Trumann (0-1) was led in scoring by Garyson Dye with 13 while Taylor Wilson scored 12.

Lady 'Jackets down Lady Hornets

Bay -- Bay had three player score in double digits to help the Lady Yellowjackets gain a 48-38 victory over the visiting Harrisburg Lady Hornets last Thursday night. Hannah Willard led the way for Bay (3-4) with 18 points. Tesha Taggart and Sara Sharp followed with 14 and 11 points respectively. Harrisburg had Kiley Howton and Nicki Pierce both score 13 points on the night. Bay won the junior high contest behind Katie Ferguson's 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Hornets out of hunt

Fountain Lake - Harrisburg traveled to Fountain Lake this past Friday to take on the Cobras in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs. The Hornets (5-5) were handed a 60-6 defeat thus ending their season. Marcus Smith scored the only points for Harrisburg on a five-yard run in the third quarter. Jordan Harper hauled in 11 passes for 128 of Smith's 212 yards passing on the night.

EPC dismantles Dierks in 2A football playoffs

Lepanto -- EPC showed no signs of rust coming off a bye week as they hosted Dierks in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs in Lepanto. The Warriors (9-0) raced out to a 55-7 halftime lead on their way to a 68-14 victory. A.J. Turner got the scoring going with a one-yard touchdown run with 8:33 left in the opening quarter. Blake Carter added the point after for a 7-0 lead. The Warriors recovered the onside kick after the score. Trevor McDaniel raced 19-yards for the next EPC score. Carter's point after made the score 14-0 with 7:34 left in the first quarter. Dierks answered this score with a 63-yard touchdown pass and a successful point after to cut the lead to 14-7. Dierks would get no closer. Jammar Sturdivant found open ground on a sweep taking the ball 85-yards for the score. Carter's extra point gave the Warriors a 21-7 lead with 6:00 left in quarter. Darius Barnes connected with Turner to give EPC its next points with a 34-yard pass. The point after by Carter was good for a 28-7 lead with 5:09 still remaining in the first. Tristan McDaniel stepped in front of an Outlaws pass and returns the ball back to Dierks 41-yard line. Barnes keeps the ball for a 41-yard touchdown with 2:19 left in the opening quarter. Carter's kick makes the score 35-7. On the opening play of the second quarter, Sturdivant broke loose and sprinted 58-yards for the score. The extra point is no good leaving the score 41-7 in favor of EPC. Barnes gets the special teams on the board by taking a Dierks punt and returning it 74-yards for a touchdown. Carter makes the kick to give the Warriors a 48-7 lead with 10:29 left before half. EPC's Aaron Scales intercepts a Dierks pass setting up Barnes 30-yard touchdown pass to Trevor McDaniel. Carter boots the point after setting the halftime score at 55-7. Dierks takes advantage of an EPC fumble as they scoop it up and race 44-yards for a touchdown with 6:18 left in third. The extra point makes it 55-14 EPC. Aaron Scales gets the Warriors next score as he takes the ball and runs 91-yards for the score. The extra point is good for a 61-14 lead. Trevor McDaniel finishes the scoring for EPC as he returns an interception 100-yards for a touchdown. Carter's kick sets the final at 68-14. EPC will host Des Arc this Friday in a Class 2A second round playoff game. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

Food pantry sign donated

The Trumann Food Pantry recently received a new sign compliments of David Hicks. Hicks presented the sign to the food pantry on November 2nd. The Trumann Food Pantry, a designated 501 (c) public charity, is located at 610 Walnut Street. The food pantry exists for the purpose of providing limited emergency food for persons who are in need. They serve the 72472 zip code only. Pantry hours are Wednesday 10 a.m until noon and Saturday 10-11:30 a.m. Donations are tax-exempt.
