Girl Scouts close to goal

The local Girl Scouts are over half way to their cookie sales goal. According to local Girl Scout Leader Terri Dunham, the Poinsett County troops had a goal of selling $3,000 worth of cookies. They are two-thirds of the way to their goal as well as a dramatic change for the leaders.

Judge rules in Jernigan's favor

A Poinsett County judge ruled Monday that Steve Jernigan is eligible to remain mayor of Lepanto. According to Jernigan's attorney, Arlon Woodruff, "the judge ruled in favor of Jernigan's election and denied the prosecuting attorney's office petition."

Lepanto officials take oath of office

Lepanto city council members took the oath of office Tuesday at the beginning of the January meeting. The council heard a report on the day care center. The director said the day care center is not making a profit and needs new windows and work on the plumbing, but noted the center offers an important service that is good for the city and the surrounding area.

Della Mae Allison Wood, 90, of Tyronza passed away Jan. 21, 2011, at NEA Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. Mrs. Wood, a homemaker, was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Tyronza.

MUNFORD, TN - Mrs. Carol English Cattaneo, 56, of Munford, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the family residence. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., and lived in Munford for the past four years and was formerly of Arziona and Trumann. She was a housewife and of the Christian faith. Mrs. Cattaneo was prededed in death by her parents, Fred B. and Frances Jewell White English.

EPC ladies stun BIC, move to first

The EPC Lady Warriors went into the second quarter with a 16-0 lead over the Buffalo Island Central Lady Mustangs Friday in Monette. The Lady Warriors didn't look back as they won, 58-39, and slid into first place in the conference and almost assuring themselves a number one seed in the 2A-North District Tournament.
