Marked bicycle routes aimed at increasing tourism and providing healthy activities for Trumann residents soon will be a reality.

One Poinsett County justice of the peace insisted in a recent meeting it would be a burden on people to extend the county's association with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its Flood Damage Prevention Program, but other county officials said it would be a bigger burden for the county if the action wasn't taken.

Five Harrisburg school board members drew lots in special meeting Thursday night, Jan. 13, for four positions on a new Harrisburg interim board formed after the state Board of Education voted March 8 of last year to merge the Weiner school district with the Harrisburg district.

Marked Tree's Rotary Club heard two speakers last week. Diana Holmes spoke on behalf of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, and Sandra Spears spoke for the Farm Service Agency.

Thomas Gerald Brown, 59, of Marked Tree died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, in St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was retired from E Ritter Communications and was of the Baptist faith.

Jo Ann McCrary, 79, of Payneway died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro. She was a lifelong resident of Payneway and a member of the Central Baptist Church. Mrs. McCrary was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents, Cortez and Julia Martin; one brother, Bert Martin, and one sister Etoile Simmons...

TRUMANN - Mrs. Agnes Christine May White, 84, of Trumann, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

EPC defeated their neighborly rivals, Marked Tree, by a score of 73-42 in ladies basketball action Thursday night in Marked Tree.

The Marked Tree Indians kept it close during the first half, but the EPC Warriors eventually pulled away to win 65-48 Friday night in Marked Tree.
