Marked Tree's motto is "A Place to Come Home to," and residents are planning to put that motto into action this weekend as more than 200 special guests visit the town. Of course all visitors are special to Marked Tree, but this is no ordinary group of men. They are heroes, and the city plans to give them a hero's welcome...

Gene Adams, 51, of Lepanto died September 20 at his residence. He was a computer engineer for Acxiom and of the Church of Christ Faith. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Adams. He was survived by his wife, Marsha Adams and his parents, Billy and Johnnie Adams; one son, Willie Adams all of Collierville, Tenn.; one daughter, Jamie Kohan (Brian) of Lepanto; one brother, Scott Adams of Collierville, Tenn.; and one granddaughter, Annabelle Kohan.. ...

Merline Iva Hall, 81, of Dyess died September 21 at the SMC Regional Medical Center in Osceola. She was born September 23, 1926 of Eaglette. Hall was a homemaker and a retired from American Greetings. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served on the Dyess Reunion Committee, Dyess Cemetery Committee and was a U.S. Postal worker...

Phyllis June Warner, 57, of Tyronza died September 20, at her residence. She was born on June 1, 1951 at Waterloo, Ala. She was a factory worker and of Pentecostal Faith. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Ashley of Tyronza; one son, Dennis Wayne Warner, Jr. ...

The EPC Warriors came into their game with Augusta Friday night at Lepanto knowing that the Red Devils had been one of the favorites to vie for the 2A-3 conference title before the season began. While the Devils may still contend for a trip to the playoffs, the Warriors made it clear that they were in contention for a trip as well as they won their first game of the season in convincing fashion, 40-21...

Marked Tree led in virtually every category last Friday night as the traveled to Newark and thrashed Cedar Ridge 46-8 in a 2A-3 conference contest. Marked Tree never trailed as they scored all of their points before the Timberwolves ever got on the board early in the final period...

The Junior Indians gained their first win of the season last Thursday when they traveled to Augusta and used big plays on both offense and defense to defeat eh Junior Red Devils, 28-18. "I was very pleased with our performance the other night," said coach Matt Wright. "I think I finally found my football team."...

It took a quarter for the EPC junior Warriors to get untracked against the Thunderbirds from Cross County last Thursday in Lepanto. Once they did, however, there was no looking back as they hamstrung the visitors 24-0 for their third win of the season...
