With eating disorders growing in number and popularity among women, especially young women, society has turned its watchful eye in recent times to how models and the fashion industry affect a woman's self esteem and body image. Models who are rail thin by drastic measures such as starving themselves, over exercising or purging, have garnered criticism from everyone from Oprah to some of the more well rounded models themselves...

Usually my column is the last thing I write each week. There are several reasons why I write the column last. First, I try to get all the news and cutlines for photos done, because the news is most important. Second, I'm always trying to get whatever feature I'm working on completed...

Talan Laidyn James White was born Sept. 7, 2007 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. He weighed seven pounds and eleven and a half ounces and was 20.5 inches long. Zell Henry Jaynes, 85, of Trumann, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Jaynes was born in Trumann and had lived his lifetime in Trumann. He was a retired businessman and land developer who throughout his life, farmed, owned and operated businesses including the Maxie Theatre in Trumann and the Avon Theatre in West Memphis. ...

Mr. Robert Golden, 62, of Bay died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at the family residence in Bay of natural causes. Golden was born in Trumann and had lived most of his lifetime in the Jonesboro and Trumann area. He was retired from the Singer and Hytrol Conveyor Company and a member of the Highway Valley Pentecostal Church...

Valley View dominated both sides of the football and came away with a surprisingly easy 42-14 thumping of Trumann Friday night at Wildcat Field. "We got out-coached, out-played, we showed a lack of effort and no heart," said Trumann coach Greg White. "Valley View has a good team and we just weren't ready to play tonight. Hunter Education Course to be offered at Lake Poinsett State Park on October 8, 9, and 11, 2007. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's "Mandatory Hunter Education" regulation went into effect July 1. 1985. The City of Trumann is planning a homecoming celebration to honor active members of the military who have recently served with the armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan on Saturday, Oct. 13. Mayor Sheila Walters announced the celebration last week. "We want to honor those from our area who have served in all branches of the military," Walters said...

The birth of the Trumann Wild Duck Festival came about because local leaders wanted to give residents an opportunity to enjoy themselves at a local celebration. Twenty-five years ago Trumann had just said goodbye to the local Singer Company, which had been a part of the city for 71 years. The local Jaycess sought to replace the annual Singer Barbecue with another local activity and the idea for the Wild Duck Festival was born...

Two local school board elections will be decided in a runoff election Tuesday, Oct. 9. In the Position 1 race, incumbent Jeff Jones will meet Lester Parker in the runoff election. Jones finished last Tuesday's race with 476 votes. Parker received 500 votes. Molly Halsey was third with 95 votes and write-in candidate Greg DeFord finished fourth with 40 votes...

Willie Matlock, 201 Dogwood, was arrested by Ptl. Erik Willbanks on Sept. 13 and charged with rape. According to police reports, Matlock had sexual intercourse with a minor female who told him no. I am person with a very addictive personality. I am also addicted to caffeinated drinks. I admit I have a problem. I had been drinking about six or seven cans per day. This weekend I decided to give it up. No more. But I also have low willpower, so you can imagine I am struggling.
