One of the greatest honors is to be honored for doing your job by your co-workers. Carl Wilson, a volunteer fireman with the Trumann Fire Department, was honored in just that way recently. This was the 23rd year for the TFD to hand out the honor of "Fireman of the Year."...

The FASTRAX program at Trumann High School will continue adult evening classes in beginning/conversational Spanish at 6 p.m. Tuesday evenings at the high school. Maple Grove Baptist Church is presenting an event for local women entitled "Permission to Breathe: Reclaiming Your Best Self." The event will be held from 6:30 -- 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11. Mrs. Mary Sue Nunnally, 84, of Trumann died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at the family residence. She was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., and had lived in Trumann since 1951. She was a retired restaurant owner, member of the Eastern Star, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, First Baptist Young at Heart and a member of the United Methodist Women and First United Methodist Church...

Mrs. Katie Lee Gregory, 77, of Trumann died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Sabougla, Miss., she had lived in Trumann for the past ten years and was formerly of Memphis. She was a retired bank clerk and of the Baptist faith...

Mrs. Gladys L. Pruitt Laird, 87, of Bay died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007. Born in Alabama, she had lived in Bay for the past five years and was formerly of Alabama. She was a homemaker and member of the Providence Baptist Church. Mrs. Laird was preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Pruitt and her second husband, Chester Laird; two great-grandchildren, Michael Lee Walker and Julie Ann Pruitt, and her parents, Dolphus Lindsey and Flossie Humphrey Posey...

Trumann's Wildcats (1-7) got back on the court Tuesday, Jan., 2 at Osceola in hopes that their fortunes would change, having won just one game this season. Unfortunately, while they played the talented Seminoles right down to the wire, the 'Cats' traditional rival was too much, winning going away, 62-51...

The powerful Lady Redskins from Pocahontas hosted Trumann last Friday night, but were far from hospitable as they easily defeated first the Lady Wildkittens, 63-10, and then the Lady Wildcats, 73-26. The two games somewhat mirrored each other as the Lady 'Cats could only manage two points in the first period to the Lady 'Kittens' goose egg...

(Little Rock) - Every year in Arkansas, 3,000 children pick up a cigarette for the first time. The American Lung Association of Arkansas and Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield are working to lower that number through the sixth annual "Don't Start" Smoking Storyboard Coloring Contest. The contest allows elementary students throughout the state to design and write a story about why people should never start to smoke. The contest begins Monday, January 15 and will end on Friday, March 30...

Dan Brawner, Democrat Sports writer and now famed author presented programs about his novel, "The Ridge," to both the Trumann Lions Club and Rotary Club last week. During his presentation he spoke to the group about how he came to write the novel and read an excerpt from the book...

The first Quorum Court meeting of the year for Poinsett County was, as it is many times, a brief affair as the agenda had no set matters to discuss. The court, prior top going into session, welcomed the two newest members, Brent Henderson and Gene Terry, both of Trumann who replaced longtime court members Jack Coggins and Rick Winkles...

Over the Christmas break, the Trumann Rotary Interact painted the high school cafeteria. The painters changed the red and blue stripes to Trumann Wildcat colors. The black and gold stripes add to the Wildcat spirit. The doors entering the cafeteria were painted black.
