Area schools discuss school improvement list

Schools across the nation and throughout Arkansas received letters last week notifying them of their status on the state's school improvement list. Marked Tree Elementary School was designated as "level three" on the list, EPC-Tyronza Elementary School was assigned a "level two" slot on the list and EPC-Lepanto Elementary School was also listed as "level two." Marked Tree High School was listed as "level one - M," meaning the students did meet the required scores for this year and have to do so again next year before being removed from the list.. ...

Hatley, Bradford win seats on Levee Board

Tribune News Staff Elections were held Monday for the St. Francis Levee Board. Over 800 voters turned out county wide to cast their ballot at two polling places in Trumann and Marked Tree. No absentee votes were taken in the election. Terry Hatley received 298 votes from the Marked Tree polling site and 246 votes in Trumann, giving him a total of 544 votes to defeat incumbent Mary Ann Arnold for position one on the board. ...

Other than the fact that Piggott had the home field advantage, it shouldn't have even been much of a contest. Marked Tree had lost only two games all year long while the Mohawks had won only three. The Indians were playing to finish the regular season on a high note before the playoffs began while Piggott was playing its last game of the year because they were going nowhere...
