At its meeting April 7, the Bay City Council learned that the city had purchased a garbage truck. The city borrowed $70,000 at an interest rate of 3.72 percent from MidSouth Bank to help pay for the truck, Mayor Quillon Vincent told the council. Vincent also told the council that the city had received its new Kubota tractor. Vincent reported that the city paid cash for the $25,214 tractor...

This year will mark the third year that Trumann has hosted the Relay for Life. Money raised from the event will go towards cancer research. Teams of eight to 15 members are organized to walk in the event. It will take place April 26 and 27. It will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 25, and end at 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. It will take place on the walking track behind Cedar Park Elementary. Donations are based on participation not the number of miles or laps walked...

Ed Swaim of the Arkansas Attorney General's office spoke Wednesday, April 2, at the Trumann senior citizens' center about fraud. One tactic that is used to scam people out of money is someone will call identifying themselves with a fictituous name that sounds similar to a well-known charitable organization such as the Red Cross, Swaim said. ...

BLYTHEVILLE - Trumann defeated Gosnell 96-97 here Tuesday, April 1, in a golf match at the Thunder Bayou Golf Links. The match was a play four, count two format. Trumann's Andrew Walters was the medalist shooting a 46 over nine holes.

On Wednesday, April 2, Bay defeated Hughes 20-0 in baseball action. Robby Bollinger took the win on the mound for Bay, allowing only one hit. He struck out four in the five-inning game. Michael Nix had two hits, four RBI and scored four runs. Brett Hogan had a homerun and scored three times...

Ida Othel Carman, 87, of Berwyn, Ill., died March 26, 2003, at the Victoria Manor Nursing Center in LeGrange, Ill. of natural causes. She was born in Walnut Ridge and had lived in Berwyn for the past 23 years. She was formerly of Pocahontas. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Carman in 1993; one son, Jimmie Carl Carman; her foster parents, Sam and Clyde Sisco and her parents, John T. and Ida L. Tillman Raglin...
