It's your money and other political musing
(Local News ~ 05/31/01)
As you probably know, the U.S. House and U.S. Senate recently passed a 10 year, $1.35 trillion tax cut by strong margins. The House vote was 240-154 and the Senate vote was 58-38. The tax cut will put much needed money into the hands of the American people, by reducing tax rates, expanding tax credits for children, eliminating both the marriage penalty and death tax, and will spur investment for retirement and education plans. ...

Taxing Times in the Senate and in Arkansas
(Local News ~ 05/31/01)
I was a little late starting this column because I had two things to do first. Number one I sent a letter to the Pope nominating Jim Jeffords for sainthood. I also sent a sympathy note to Trent Loft. One of the best things about the sift of power in the Senate is that we won't have to see Loft, the Brylcream Junkie, on TV as much. I swear, you couldn't mess up his hair if you slapped him in the head with a 2x4...

Assessors ask legislators to pinpoint property credit details
(Local News ~ 05/31/01)
Some fuzzy areas remain in the administration of Arkansas' new $300 property tax credit to homeowners, according to Poinsett County Assessor Johnny Rye, Jr. "So many different combinations of property ownership exist," he said.
