Increased pet ownership with COVID-19!
The Veterinary Business has been extremely busy during this pandemic. Many of my local vet colleagues have seen an increase in pet ownership and wellness care for pets. This increase is attributed to several things. First, people are home with their pets more and tend to notice things that may be wrong with their pet. Second, they have time to take their furry friend in for a checkup, and third, many people simply want companionship.
Being home with your pet makes you more aware of their habits and normal activity. If just the smallest thing changes owners notice and seek the care of their local veterinarian. Many owners realize that fluffy is overdue for routine vaccinations and wellness checks. They have time now and schedule an appointment. Owners also realize just how much companionship their pet brings and want to make sure that everything is okay health wise.
The increase in new pet ownership is definitely a contributing factor. Many families have realized that they now have time to give a new pet the care and training it needs. Especially since they are spending more time at home. Pets bring many hours of entertainment, joy and companionship for people and families. Since many people are a 1-person household a pet can make people feel wanted, loved and needed. This is so important when individuals are isolated from friends and family.
Many shelters and rescue groups have had an increase in adoptions. They also have seen an increase in pets surrendered due to economic hard ship. More pets are being placed in loving homes.
If you have thought about pet ownership now maybe the time. More time at home and a slower pace of life are great benefits in raising a pet. Many hours can be spent enjoying your furry companion.
